Heavenly Culture World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) is a peace organizationbased in South Korea, but with100 branches throughout the world, including Zimbabwe. It works with various organisations, including governments in the promotion of global peace throughout the world. The Zimbabwe chapter of HWPL on Saturday, 4 June 2016 held a peace gathering in Central Harare in which various organisations involved in the global peace movement were invited. The Harare chapter of the HWPL said the world is capable of working together to forge ever lasting peace. The organisation noted that the world of today now desires peace and a conflict free world. It noted that the seed of peace was now manifesting itself in Zimbabwe, further urging humanity to leave in harmony. HWPL urged all people involved in the promotion of peace to be ambassadors of peace. The Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Mohsen Shojakhani was the guest of honour. The following is his speech:

Ladies and Gentleman, Brothers and Sisters.

We live in a world of fear and hope; fear of war, fear of extremism, fear of thedestruction of critical resources, fear of violation of human dignity and rights and fear of negligence of ethical values.

On the other hand there is hope; hope of the inclination of people and their elites towards peace, hope of preferring dialogue over conflict and the hope of preferring moderation over extremism.

Even though some powers and groups still resort to old and ineffective methods for the purpose of getting leverage over others, it is quite evident that adoption of military and economic steps contradicts values that the people of the world stand for; values such as peace and security, human dignity and human rights.

On the one hand there are some powers which want to force their interests on other countries in the name democracy and human rights and on the other hand there are some extremist and terrorist groups that want to gain power in the name of religion. Both of them are, in fact, misusing hoses noble values for their own vested interests.

However they should know that the awareness and awakening is growing rapidly among the people of the world and today’s gathering is but one example of such increasing awareness.

The initiative taken by such organizations  as HWPL and the response to the call for world peace should serve as a wakeup call for the powers and extremist terrorist groups that violate the rights and dignity of other human beings in whatever name; because in a world driven by the attitude that “I am right and you are wrong or we are right and they are wrong and so our thoughts and views should be imposed on others at whatever cost and even illegal and inhuman way, no one can make a difference and no one can live in peace”.

Lastly, let us remember that real and unsustainable peace can only be attained when there is justice. In the absence of justice every form of imposed peace is quite volatile. So let us begin with ourselves in our daily life and our relationship with the people around us.
